A division of a major international development bank desired advice and
recommendations regarding the establishment of equity funds to serve small and
medium size enterprises in Latin America. Vista Ventures determined the
feasibility of an early stage venture fund and made recommendations regarding
the governance of the fund, selection and compensation of the fund manager,
expected deal flow, and technical assistance to be provided to portfolio
companies in marketing, accounting, production, etc.
A venture capital fund hired Vista Ventures to perform due diligence
prior to making an investment of US$500,000. The investment candidate was a
young firm which uses proprietary technologies to make digital video recordings.
This data is used to provide security in public transit vehicles, other mobile
vehicles, and certain stationary environments.
A retail and wholesale network in Honduras needed management
assistance to keep up with its rapid growth. Vista Ventures advised the CEO of
the firm regarding a short term strategic plan including a revision of its
organization structure, reporting to his board of directors and generating
additional revenues from member-retailers.
An early stage company has developed proprietary technology which can improve
the quality and lower the cost of hydrogen purification. Vista Ventures
advised the management regarding capital-raising and helped to negotiate a
strategic alliance with a US$5 billion producer of industrial gases. That
relationship will result in a development and distribution agreement for
hydrogen generators that will be worth more than US$20 million for the young
firm.
A state government in central Mexico required a prospectus and
operations plan prior to soliciting major institutional investors for an early
stage venture fund. The prospectus described the market for the fund, size and
structure of typical investments, and liquidity opportunities. The operations
plan identified the procedures for management of the fund, approval of
investments, distribution of proceeds, etc.
A start-up company needed a business plan for its online corporate
training programs which includes extensive follow-up and management
feedback. Vista Ventures prepared the plan which is the essential element in the
firm's efforts to raise $1 million in initial equity capital.
A policy research center of a major university seeks to improve the
community and business climate surrounding its campus. Vista Ventures helped to
assess the feasibility of franchising as a means of encouraging new investment
and entrepreneurship in low-income communities.
Another client firm is a manufacturer of gravity-fed water filtration
products which markets to residential customers through advertisements on
radio programs. Vista Ventures has helped this early stage firm in the design of
its marketing plans, attraction of capital, and expansion of its management
team.
An emerging Internet business has developed a search engine capable of
extremely rapid organization, sorting, and publication of data on the Internet.
